Forward! So I had to make a more serious deviantart other than poohp00hbear for a digital portfolio (until I learn how to make my own cool super awesome website and earn enough money to buy one too), and it's:

Yup. There's almost all of my pieces I've done so far since I've gotten into RISD. I'm applying for a video game internship this summer. And if you can guess what I want to do in my life, I want to design video games, and more specifically, follow the path of the Jade Raymond (and beyond) and produce video games like Assassin's Creed! and best of all, she has a fine arts degree.

I'm excited about the future. Even if I don't get this internship, I finally know what I'd really absolutely love to do. So I'm going to major in illustration and perhaps dual major or take a lot of courses in animation.

=) will update this account sooner or later though

life is busy, but good!

Hi there :) i hope this is not too creepy, but i see that you're an illustration student at risd (i think?) and I'm curious about the school and the illustration dept. How do you like it so far?

Hiya!
I actually transferred out to be a biology student (not because RISD sucked, it's just what I wanted to do). However, my time as an illustration major was pretty awesome (freshman year is a struggle for almost everyone). And even if I'm slightly biased when I say this, the illustration department is totally the best department out of all departments. The other students are great/really enthusiastic, and the teachers absolutely know what they're doing.

It's highly competitive however, and the enthusiasm from the other students made me see that I was definitely not in the right place--you have to be pretty hardcore about art! Expect very little sleep if you want to shine. Haha.

....so I'm definitely creepin, but into biology (that's awesome!)? But to what school? (because I love art, but biology too, and if I would like to change I would like to know what kind of possibilities are offered)

I'm at Boston U now! Honestly, I just applied to a hodge podge of schools and BU happened to offer me the largest scholarship, and took all my AP credits so I could graduate without doing any extra catch up--and my mom was like, that's it, you're going there. I chose to apply because undergrad student research is easily accessible there, and if you want a career in that or a strong extracurricular to put on your resume, it's key! (Cuz your undergrad doesn't really matter that much if you're going to grad school.) It's also huge (which I wanted, cuz RISD was tiny) and they have a million classes to take, like animal behavior, the study of mammals, etc.

Since then I've landed a research gig and I'm taking EMT classes offered by BU. But, I'm sorry to say, I haven't really done any art lately :(. BU does have a college of fine arts, and if I had the time, I would take the classes, but only for fun and not for learning.

If you like both bio and art and you can't decide between the two, there's a few options...RISD has a double major program with Brown U, but that's VERY difficult to get into. Though, Brown students can take classes at RISD and they often find it fulfilling but challenging. Carnegie Mellon has a great art program in addition to being a great school, but I'm not sure what their policy is on taking classes outside of your school or double-majoring or transferring between colleges. Otherwise, if you're not sure which one you want to focus on, I would play it safe and not limit yourself by going to a school that is highly focused on one area, ie an art school or a tech school. This saves you the pain of transferring (which really sucks).

Hope that helps!
